The Siege of Marune was a prelude to the Battle of Okehazama, during which Imagawa Yoshimoto's forces attacked and captured Marune Fortress.
Background[]
Marune was a frontier stronghold under the control of Oda Nobunaga.[1]
Battle[]
During the battle, Tokugawa Ieyasu effectively employed concentrated arquebus fire during the assault, resulting in the death of the defending Oda commander, Sakuma Morishige, who was struck by a bullet.[2] Notably, Sakuma Morishige is regarded as the first Japanese general to be killed by gunfire.[3]
Aftermath[]
Marune was captured by Tokugawa Ieyasu as part of the Imagawa clan's advance toward Kyoto, an operation that culminated in the fateful Battle of Okehazama.[4]
