Sakakibara Yasumasa was a loyal Tokugawa retainer and one of the Four Guardian Kings of Tokugawa.

Biography[]

In 1575, Yasumasa Sakakibara participated in the Battle of Nagashino. During the pursuit of the Takeda forces, he, along with Honda Tadakatsu and Ōsuga Yasutaka, succeeded in apprehending Naitō Masatoyo, who was subsequently killed.[1]

In 1581, during the Siege of Takatenjin, Yasumasa Sakakibara distinguished himself in combat by taking forty-one enemy heads from the Takeda forces.[2]

In 1584, Sakakibara Yasumasa took part in the Battle of Komaki and Nagakute as a commander under the Tokugawa – Oda alliance. During the course of the campaign, he, together with Oda Nagamasu, successfully launched an assault on Kanie Castle, resulting in its capture.[3]

Following the Battle of Sekigahara, Sakakibara Yasumasa played an active role in the redistribution of estates among the daimyō.[4]
