Kuroda Nagamasa (黒田 長政) was the son of Kuroda Yoshitaka and served both Toyotomi and Tokugawa clans.
Biography[]
In his early childhood, at the age of ten, Kuroda Nagamasa was sent as a hostage to Oda Nobunaga.[1]
During the Toyotomi's invasion of Shikoku, Kuroda Nagamasa, together with Hachisuka Iemasa and Ukita Tadaie, commanded forces off Sanuki and landed on the island of Yashima.[2]
While serving the Toyotomi clan, Kuroda Nagamasa participated in military campaigns in Kyūshū and Korea. Subsequently, he aligned with Tokugawa Ieyasu's Eastern Army and took part in the Battle of Sekigahara.[3]
As a reward for his service, Kuroda Nagamasa was granted a transfer from Nakatsu in Buzen Province, valued at 120,000 koku, to Najima in Chikuzen Province, which was assessed at 520,000 koku. There, he constructed a castle and named it Fukuoka.[4]
Kuroda Nagamasa also participated in the Siege of Osaka Castle, a major conflict that marked the final phase of resistance against the Tokugawa shogunate..[5]
