Kenshin Uesugi was born in 1530. He was a rival with Shingen Takeda and faced him 5 time at Kawanakajima.


Kenshin Uesugi was born in February 1530 at Kasugayama in Echigo province, the 4th son of Tamekage Nagao, a powerful warlord who was first an enemy and then a nominal vassal of the Yamaouchi-Uesugi.[1] When young Kenshin was fifteen he was placed in joint command of Tochio castle. Here he was attacked by rebels of the Uesugi, but he soundly defeated them, earning the young man a reputation.[2] After rising to power withen the Nagao familey, he was adopted by Norimasa Uesugi who was then in desperete straits. Kenshin was often at war with the Takeda and Hojo, and on many occasions he showed himsleft to be their equel. Kenshin fought Shingen Takeda five times at Kawanakajima. In 1558 he went war against the Hojo and took there castles of Numata and Umayabashi. In 1557 he won victories in Nanao and Tedorigawa. In 1578 he entered an alliance with Katsuyori Takeda against Nobunaga Oda, but his mysterios death circumstances led many to suspect assassination.[3]
