Biography[]

During his service to the Mōri clan, Ankokuji Ekei acted as a diplomat, mediating between Oda Nobunaga and the Shōgun Ashikaga Yoshiaki after Yoshiaki had been expelled from Kyōto.[1] He also acted as a mediator between Toyotomi Hideyoshi and Mōri Terumoto.[2]

In 1590, during the Toyotomi's campaign of Odawara castle, Ankokuji Ekei would serve under the Toyotomi banner. The combined forces of Ankokuji Ekei, Chōsokabe Motochika, Kuki Yoshitaka and Katō Yoshiaki, commanded a fleet of 14,000 troops during the Siege of Shimoda. [3]

In 1600, Ankokuji Ekei fought for the Western Army at the Battle of Sekigahara and was afterwards beheaded.[4]
